Fuel Containment
Q:
How do I properly store my rigid, Self-Venting spout?
A: The spout is to remain on the outside at all times with the yellow spout cap snapped onto the end of the spout with the arrows UN-aligned. The spout is on the inside for shipping purposes only.

Q:
How do I properly store my Pull-n-Pour spout?
A:
The Pull-n-Pour spout is designed to be stored inside the can. To store, simply push the spout down inside the body of the can, and replace the cap on the threaded collar. Tighten to seal.

Q: How do I properly store my Spill Proof (CARB) spout?
A: The Spill Proof spout should be stored in the “out” position. The spout is designed to automatically close. Once the container has been filled with gasoline, the spout should NEVER be re-inserted back into the body of the can.

Q:
Why can’t I purchase a new Pull-n-Pour can?
A:
The Pull-n-Pour can was discontinued as we transitioned into our new Self-Venting design. We no longer produce this style of can, and have discontinued shipping replacement parts for this series. Please try our Self-Venting or Spill-Proof can models.

Q: Will the Self-Venting Spout work on my old Pull ‘N Pour cans?
A: No. The neck and sealing surface of the nozzle on the self-venting system is different than the pull-n-pour and if interchanged, will not create a satisfactory and safe seal.

Q:
Will the Pull ‘N Pour spout work on the Self-Venting gas cans?
A: No. It will not function correctly without means of venting. The Self-Venting gas cans do not have vent tabs.

Q:
Can I store fuel in my gas cans for long periods of time?
A:
Stored fuel will not hurt your gas can. However, due to a potential loss of octane of the fuel during periods of long storage, Blitz recommends that you not use our gas cans for long term storage.

Q: Where should I store my gas can?
A: Always store fuel in a well ventilated area and out of reach of children. Please see  “Safety Awareness” for more information.

Q: Why does my can expand in heat and contract in cold temperatures?
A: Fuel vapors expand when hot and contract when cold. Our plastic containers are designed to have the resilience to accommodate for these phenomena.   Underwriter Laboratories (UL) tests our cans to an ASTM F852 standard which includes a 20 psi test to allow for the expansion caused by fuel. The can will return to its normal state when at room temperature. If you need to use your can under expansion or contraction, you should release any built up pressure or      vacuum by slowly loosening the collar temporarily. Only do this in a well-  ventilated area away from any flame source and on a flat surface.

Q: Why did my Self-Venting gas can spray fuel out of the nozzle when I removed the yellow cap?
A: This may occur if the can is over-filled and under pressure due to temperature changes. As fuel vapors expand when it is hot outside, filling above the recommended fill level noted on the can may cause the gas to spray out, similar to a pop bottle under pressure. UL requires cans to maintain an extra 5% capacity to allow for such fuel expansion. Spraying can be reduced by not over-filling, opening on a flat surface, and storing the spout on the outside of the can.

Q: Why is there no vent on my Self-Venting can?
A:
Our rigid spout is “self-venting” which means that the spout vents itself. There is an air channel inside the spout that allows airflow and thus vents the can without an additional opening.

Q:

So how do I release pressure in my Self-Venting can?

A: Pressure in the can is due to the expansion of fuel vapors in hot temperatures. The can will return to its normal state when at room temperature again. If you need to use your can while it is still under expansion, you should release any built up pressure by slowly loosening the collar temporarily. Only do this in a well-  ventilated area away from any flame source and on a flat surface.

Q:
Where can I find assembly instructions for my spout?
A: Please visit our resource center for complete assembly instructions on our Spill-Proof and Self-Venting systems.

Regulations
Q:
Why can’t I purchase a Self-Venting can in my state?
A:
If you cannot find a Self-Venting can in your area, you may be in a state covered by air emission regulations for portable fuel containers. Blitz offers a full assortment of gasoline cans that meet these requirements with our Spill-Proof system designs. For more information, contact your state environmental agency website for more details on regulations that may impact your state. For complete list click here

Q: What does CARB stand for?
A:
California Air Resource Board. Blitz offers a full assortment of gasoline cans that meet CARB regulations for portable fuel containers with our Spill-Proof system designs. For further details please visit   www.arb.ca.gov

Q:
What states have adopted air emission regulations such as CARB laws?
A: CA, MD, ME, TX, NY, NJ, PA, CT, DE, OH, NH and the following counties in VA: Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Price William, and Stafford. For more information and to view a map of states that have emission control regulations for portable fuel containers Click Here.

Q:
Why can’t I find a different colored can for my oil mixes?
A: Our cans are certified by ASTM standards which mandate that all gas cans be red, all diesel cans yellow, and all kerosine cans blue. If using Blitz cans for oil mixes, be sure to clearly label them as such.

Other Inquiries

Q: Shouldn’t “kerosine” be spelled as “kerosene” on the can?
A: Both forms are recognized as correct spelling, however, our cans are certified by    ASTM standards which mandate that “Kerosine” be the form used on the cans.

Q: Why can’t I refuel on road vehicles with the Self-Venting or Spill Proof (CARB) spouts?
A: The spouts are not intended for on-road use as the spout is not long enough to open the trap door. A funnel is required if you run out of gas and need to refuel your vehicle.

Q: Is it safe to drink water stored in your water cans?
A:
Yes. Be sure to only put water in the can. Be sure to wash and rinse can out thoroughly before storing water.

Q: Where can I find replacement parts?
A:
We are happy to receive your replacement part requests. Please send us your request through our feedback page and be sure to include the model number of the item for which you are requesting a part. The model number can be found on the last 5 digits of the UPC barcode or embossed on the side of the can.
