USED MOTOR OIL

Don’t Spoil Your Soil, Recycle Your Oil!

Recycle! When used oil is poured down drains or onto the ground  it can work its way into our ground and surface waters and cause serious pollution. Even throwing oil away in a sealed container can cause pollution. Learn the facts and protect yourself and our environment by recycling used motor oil.

- Used oil can contain contaminants such as lead, magnesium, copper, zinc, chromium, arsenic, chlorides, cadmium, and chlorinated compounds.

- One gallon of used oil can contaminate a million gallons of drinking water.

- Federal reports indicate that used motor oil accounts for more than 40 percent of the total oil pollution of our nation's harbors and waterways.

- By burning used motor oil in disposal efforts, toxins are released into our air, harming ourselves and our environment.

- Leaving used oil exposed in various containers in garages or yards can create a fire hazard and increases risk of spills and pollution.

What YOU can do!

- Recycle used motor oil at your local collection facility. Oftentimes, local auto parts shops or any location where oil is sold will accept anywhere from 3 to  5 gallons of used motor oil at little or no cost. Call your favorite shop or call 1(800) CLEANUP for a center nearest you.

- Between trips to the recycle center, store used motor oil in tightly secured and clearly labeled containers designated solely for this purpose, such as the
Dispos-Oil.  As is the case with any hazardous material, store out of reach of children and outside of your living area.
